This year we were able to attend the PlanetChristmas Lights Up Symposium 2005 (PLUS2005). It was held in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee on July 29-31st. We had a great time meeting other Christmas enthusiasts and learning about their displays. Yes, we spent our summer vacation at a Christmas convention! We arrived two days early at the Music Road Hotel so we could visit the Christmas shops in Pigeon Forge and spend a day hiking in The Great Smoky Mountains. We spent time in Gatlinburg and toured a timeshare so we could get free tickets to The Black Bear Jamboree dinner theater. The timeshare was a waste of time but the Black Bear show was great.
The convention and classes were excellent. I learned new tips and tricks and finely got to put names to faces from the PlanetChristmas chat room. The vender room was packed with merchandise and new products for this year. I especially enjoyed meeting Drew Hickman and Dan Baldwin. Drew got me started several years ago in computer control with his SACB controllers and Dan produces the LOR controllers that have given me endless animation possibilities. The Luau on Saturday night was a good opportunity to meet family members and significant others. We even got to get our picture taken with Santa!
