| | Train #3 History |

Train number three was a fun build. I had several years of experience running a train in my yard so I knew what I wanted this train to do. I purchased a new set of wheelchair motors from Ebay and a large battery from Sam’s Club. A new frame was welded up and heavy duty castor bearings were used to allow the axles to swivel smoothly. I wanted the body of the engine to be removable so I could take it off easily and work on the battery and motor without having to disconnect anything. I added a charging port on the back of the cab to speed up the charging process each night and I finally came up with a great solution to my troublesome G-Scale pickup shoes. Spring loaded brass door latches. They work great! I also had an unexpected issue the first year running this new engine. The couplings that connect each car began breaking. The force of this new engine pulling on all the cars was putting too much stress on the trigger snaps I was using. The connector right behind the engine was breaking. When the first one broke I thought it was just old so I replaced it. That same night the new one broke also so I knew I had a problem. I had to upgrade to bigger connectors and use bigger lag screws for all the cars. This solved the problem. This new quieter engine has performed great and runs very smoothly around the track. I couldn’t be happier.
