| How to use a high voltage light tester |
|
|
Have you ever wanted to just push a button and have a
set of mini lights fix themselves or at least tell you where the bad bulb is? In
most cases these high voltage mini light testers can do just that.
These testers
are only good for fixing mini lights such as 20, 35, or 50 light strings. What
you ask! They are not good for 100 count strings? Yes they will fix 100, 150,
200 or 300 lights strings too because these strings are multiple sets of 50
wired together. To fix a half lit string of 100 lights you will need to pull out
one of the working bulbs. This will disable the working side (50 light string)
and allow the tester to send the power to the non-working side (other 50 light
string). The tester will light up the non-working side except for the bad bulbs.
In most cases you just replace the bad bulbs and you’re done. Sometimes you will
hear a buzzing sound at the base of a bulb. This is indicating that this bulb is missing or broken and
should be replaced. In some cases the bulb you pulled out on the working side
begins to buzz. If this occurs you will need to place an empty bulb base in that
socket to prevent arcing.
These testers are a real time saver if you have a lot
of mini lights. One thing to remember is these testers do not work on C-7’s,
C-9’s, or any type of multi function chaser or fader lights. The price for these units range from $150-$200. Be sure to check the respective websites for sales and
specials on these units.

Chase Lights
Mini Light Tester (Discontinued)
http://www.chaselights.com
Chaselights never intended to sell these testers. They made a large custom order for a company that then backed out of the
deal. They were sold at this very low price just so they could recoup their production costs. I purchased one of the last testers back in 2004.
