Skipping Christmas? We tried this year.... as you can see it did not work. After 2002 we were burned out on Christmas and decided to take a break for 2003. Throughout the year we told family and friends that we were not putting the train out and we were just going to put up a few lights. Maybe even put up a sign that says 'Plan B' with a box of lights next to it. We stuck to our plan all the way until after Thanksgiving. Not even a single Christmas light had been touched since last year. After Thanksgiving day we started seeing lights going up in our neighborhood and everyone was still asking when the train was going to be put out even though we had firmly told them 100 times we were not doing it this year. The pressure was too great and we finely cracked. Casey and I sat down and scratched out all the things we needed to do to make our display happen and we needed help. My parents really came through for us this year. They gladly put their schedule on hold and drove 6 hours to lend us a hand for a few days. Without their help we could not have done it! Thanks Mom & Dad!
Once the track was laid and the major lights were plugged in, I started working on one new addition to the display. This year we built a new Candy Cane car. The candy canes are made of painted oak dowel rods with red vinyl stripes.
